Spain, in 1944, was a turbulent country with difficult times. Ricardo almost went bankrupt due to his late father's gambling debts, forcing him to barely make ends meet as a shoeshine boy to take care of his recently widowed sister and keep them at home. Ricardo and his lifelong companions formed a gang to extract money from debtors for the wealthy and powerful in the town.
