Sir Charles Baskerville died at the entrance to the manor. Dr. Mortimer said he died of natural causes. However, when he told Sherlock Holmes about the case, he felt that Sir Charles' death was the result of hundreds of years' curse of the Baskerville family. Dr. Mortimer believed that it would hit Sir Henry, Sir Charles's nephew, who was coming to claim the Baskerville estate. Sherlock Holmes sent Dr. Watson, Dr. Mortimer and Sir Henry to the manor to let Watson watch out for any suspicious behavior. Upon arrival, Watson immediately noticed strange things happening at the estate and the surrounding wilderness, and sent a report to Holmes about Sir Henry's life. Will Holmes arrive in time to solve the mystery? Who is responsible for Sir Charles' death and Sir Henry's attempted murder? Is it Doctor Mortimer, neighbor Stapleton, butler Barryman, harmless old Frankland, a mysterious savage, or the Baskerville family cursed? The opening line of the "Rathbone Bruce Holmes" series is very good (although this movie lacks any of the qualities of ongoing work.) This movie could have been even darker and more ominous (it does have a studio like feel), and the ending was also more confrontational, but it did provide a lot of fun. The romantic scenes between Green and Barry had almost no spark, but the actors had good distracting performances, which was a bonus for this movie. Rating, 8.
