When single middle-aged Louis set out from Barcelona to bury his mother's body in the tomb of the Segovia family, he was placed in her old house by his aunt Pilar, and he spent the summer of 1936 with her. He met his cousin Angelica, who was his first love and lived on the first floor with her husband and daughter. He recalled his childhood, when the Spanish Civil War was intertwined with the present.
